Hey Gents,
It has been a few month since I have logged on due to the renovation of my new house but I wanted to take a minute and post a project in honor of 72nd Anniversary of the D-Day landings. This diorama depicts a private from Charlie Company 2nd Rangers landing on Dog Green Sector of Omaha Beach as described in Steven Ambrose’s book.
I used celuclay for the base making all the foot and hand prints then I painted it and used sand that I brought back from Omaha Beach to cover it. I made the steel “hedgehog” tank obstacle out of 26 gauge black uncoated steel sheeting that I cut and bent into the appropriate pieces based on the dimensions of an original hedgehog. Once the pieces were made I put them through several processes to rust the steel. When they were rusted over I glued them together and set them into the base.
For the water proof rifle cases I used a portion of a black trash bag because I was not able to find a clear or a translucent olive colored bag that better match the originals. I hope to find a few small clear bags in the years to come that I can replace them with.
I hope you all enjoy!
