ear Friends,
I'd like to share some Facts with you regarding the Legion “ Free India “ which served the German Reich doing WW-II lead by Indian Freedom fighter Subhas Chandara Bose their goal was to liberate Indian, then part of the British empire, with the help of Germany. By 1943 a German Victory seemed out of the question and Bose took submarine U-180 to Japan where he was handed over to the Japanese aboar ( destroyed ) I-29.With the help of the Japanese Bose started , to build a new army of 30.000 men, mainly Pow´s of the Japanese. With this new army Bose tried to reach India, but the British army prevented that. Bose died on August 18th 1945 when his plane crashed. Some 3000 Indian Soldiers remained in Germany. They were Liberated English Pow´s captures in Africa-among other places they were trained by German officers in Königsbrück near Dresden. Later transferred to the French channel coast, they served as German Infantry- Regiment 950-. On August 8th 1944 they would become the Indian Legion of the Waffen- SS. Defending the French coast Bordeaux. After their difficult retreat to Germany the Legion stayed until march `45 at the Neuberg- Barracks as the defeat of the 3rd Reich became obvious, the Indians tried to withdraw to neutral Switzerland, but American and French troops had other Plans for them...
We now come to our figure:
Not all Indians tried to reach Switzerland, leave one company went to Berlin where they fought back to back with other SS-Units the battle of Berlin. Afterwards Russian soldiers did find their bodies in and around the Reichskanzlei. But because of their looks they mistook them for Tibets. Most Indians did wear a part of the DAK-Uniform and their Turban.
Shown is here a member of the Sikh.
Hope you like the figure and the report.
